Purchasing Agent
Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer is responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment and services with the objective of meeting cost, delivery and quality initiatives in a diverse manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions
- Sourcing, negotiating, awarding and documenting purchases for materials and services in an ERP system
- Compiling and analyzing data to perform price analysis; reviewing proposals to establish best total value
- Performing bid/proposal activities
- Ensuring that Purchase Orders and requirements are properly communicated to suppliers in bid proposals
- Interfacing with internal customers and suppliers to ensure that the materials/services are delivered on-time and in accordance with the specifications and quality notes documented in the Purchase Order
- Managing supplier performance to cost, schedule and quality requirements
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and other engineering documents
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects from start to completion
- Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations (price, schedule and supplier exceptions to contractual flow down requirements, Terms and Conditions)
- Perform and comprehend price analyses and source selection/justification
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal customers and suppliers
- Time management and deadline driven skills
- Ability to filter information from multiple sources to drive innovative solutions
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, approval bodies, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, peers and the manufacturing floor
Education and/or Experience
- 3-5 years Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
- Mechanical and/or Electrical experience is a plus
- Machine Shop or Metal Fabrication experience is a plus
